Flat Roof Membranes
PVC flat roof membranes are simply a vinyl-type layer that is placed over an existing flat or shingled roof. This membrane provides homeowners and business owners with additional insulation, protection against the elements and as extra sound deadening. In the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, no company has more experience with PVC flat roof membranes than Metal Master Roofing & Construction, which has been installing and repairing this form of roofing in North Texas for more than 25 years.
You’ve no doubt heard PVC (polyvinyl chloride) used before, but perhaps with your piping. But it’s been around as a roofing choice since the 1970s and has been growing in popularity ever since because of its durability, flexibility and resistance to ultra-violet radiation (i.e. the sun’s damaging rays). Those characteristics are why PVC has replaced cast iron, for example, with most underground piping.
But what can PVC flat roof membranes do for your home or business? Well, flat roofs are great for a lot of things (space, access, simplicity of design), but they are not great against the elements, specifically rain (or the occasional North Texas snow). And asphalt shingles simply are not a great option on flat roofs, as they don’t last very long and have multiple entry points or seams in which the water can seep and cause leaks.
We specialize in the installation of IB Roof Systems PVC flat roof membranes. This membrane will be installed (hot-welded) as a single piece of roofing – that means no seams or joints. It’s sort of like putting a swimming pool liner on your roof, and it’s about the best water-proofing application you can add to your roof. Yet this vinyl membrane remains very flexible, contracting in the heat, etc. That assures no cracks or splitting, etc., and it has a high resistance to punctures and debris impact. It’s also extremely fire resistant. And while PVC membranes used to be typically just for commercial structures, homeowners are now adding them because of the variety of colors now available.
Adding this PVC membrane also allows you to add an extra layer of insulation on your roof – atop your old material and before we install the PVC flat roof membrane. And perhaps best of all, this membrane can reflect up to 80 percent of the sun’s rays, which keeps your structure cooler on the inside. That means less stress on your air conditioning unit(s) and a lower energy bill. By comparison, asphalt built-up roofs (BUR) reflect no more than 25 percent of solar radiation. PVC flat roof membranes are a way to turn your roof into a “cool roof” (if you choose a white color), which is an emerging environmentally friendly trend, especially in urban areas. And it might qualify you for government tax deductions, as IB Roof Systems products are Energy Star rated per EPA standards.
